Here at South West Nissan, we believe that it’s our responsibility as a local business to support the community. So when the annual Dragon Boat Festival – in aid of Devon Air Ambulance – comes around, we’re more than willing to get involved. This year was our fourth year of participation, and the team was delighted come second in the race, which took place on Sunday, 23 September.
Since 2014, the Dragon Boat Festival has been helping to raise vital funds for the Devon Air Ambulance. Local businesses, clubs and individuals can take part by entering a team of 16 rowers and a drummer to race along Exeter Quay, while also agreeing to raise money for the charity through sponsorship. This year, we’re pleased to announce that our team raised a fantastic £4,555, which the Air Ambulance will used to assist patients across the county.
Matthew Holcombe, Group Sales Director at South West Nissan and a participant in this year’s race said: “The race is a great team building opportunity, and also enables us to give something back to the community while having fun and enjoying some friendly rivalry with other teams.
“We enjoyed the race immensely and are delighted to have come second this year. We’re already looking ahead to a victory next year!”
The Devon Air Ambulance relies on public and corporate fundraising in order to continue its work. The Dragon Boat Festival is just one of many events it holds throughout the year to raise awareness of its services and encourage support from the community. From balls to bake offs, there are lots of ways for people across the county to get involved. Since its inauguration, the Dragon Boat Festival has raised some £40,000 for the charity.
