Nissan’s biggest commercial vehicle is the NV400 which is available in a variety of shapes and sizes. They all offer a large loadspace for carrying virtually anything you could need to transport and engines that are powerful enough to move it with ease.
Each NV400 variant shares the same fresh-looking front end featuring a large grille, durable plastic bumper and wing mirrors with integrated indicators. They are all fitted from the entry-level E Grade, and one above it is SE with a rear step bumper. The van’s length and height can be specified to match your capacity needs, with Dropside, Tipper, Box Van and other variants also in the range.
The NV400’s size means its cabin is spacious enough for even the tallest occupants. The gearstick is inches from the steering wheel for easier driveability and a variety of storage areas can hold important items and documents near to hand. Pick the SE grade for a foldable central seat-back with swivelling table and turn the cabin into an office. In Panel Van and Crew Van guises a large sliding door on the nearside gives you easy access to the rear section. The biggest Panel Van swallows up 17,000 litres of cargo here, while the Crew Van seats as many as seven. The Dropside with its exposed rear and hinged opening enables you to quickly move and access as much as 8,900 litres of cargo.
The van’s 2.3-litre dCi turbo diesel engine is capable of delivering power as soon as you demand it, while also returning surprising efficiency. There are three outputs to choose from: 99bhp, 123bhp and 148bhp. The strongest also generates up to 350Nm of torque at only 1,250rpm for more eager acceleration and towing. A dashboard indicator light shows you the optimum time to change gear via a slick six-speed manual transmission. The system helps the Euro 5-compliant engine to release from only 187g/km of CO2.
The starting E grade delivers all of Nissan’s most important safety technology such as Electronic Stability Programme (ESP). The computerised system recognises a loss of traction and applies the brakes automatically to steer the van where you intend it to go. Oversteer and understeer are also corrected through selective braking. During an emergency stop, ABS keeps the wheels from locking so you stay in control of the van’s steering. A passenger airbag is added to the standard driver airbag in SE-grade models to minimise injury if the van is involved in an accident.
The well-equipped NV400 contains some features you may not expect to find in a commercial vehicle. The audio system with iPod® connectivity includes USB and auxiliary ports for linking other media players. Bluetooth® is also standard-fit, so calls can be taken safely while driving. NissanConnect with TomTom satellite navigation is on the options list if you demand optimum connectivity from your van. Use it to stream music, access apps, follow directions to a destination and search the web.
