Servicing FAQs

How much does it cost to service your car?

Here at South West Nissan, we aim to make servicing and maintaining your vehicle as affordable as possible, with prices starting from £219. Our Nissan Care servicing page details the full cost of servicing and provides added information regarding the type of vehicle you drive, be it petrol, diesel, hybrid, or electric.

What is checked in a car service?

A standard vehicle service covers a number of checks, assessing the quality and reliability of such items as braking, oil levels, tyre tread, and windscreen wipers. At South West Nissan, we also offer additional checks such as a cambelt service which focus on specific components in your vehicle. Speak to a member of our team today to learn more.

Do you need to service your car every year?

No two cars are the same in the same way that no two drivers are identical. As such, it’s standard practice to say that vehicle servicing should be completed every 12,000 miles covered. That said, some purchase agreements may require you to service the model every 12 months, while reselling a model that has had regular servicing will help you secure the best possible price.

How long does a service take?

The length of time it takes to complete your vehicle service varies. Speak to a member of our servicing team today for more information.

Is it illegal to not service your car?

There is no legal requirement for you to carry out vehicle servicing, although there may be stipulations in any financial or purchasing agreement which requires you to adhere to it. Failure to do so could leave you in breach of contract and facing claims for compensation. There are also added benefits to conducting servicing, not least being able to better preserve the resale value of your model.

Is there a grace period for MOT?

There is no grace period for failing to have an up-to-date MOT certificate for your vehicle, and you may well face prosecution if caught.

What can a car fail an MOT on?

As a test of the roadworthiness of your vehicle, a number of checks will be carried out to ensure that it is safe for you and other road users for it to be on the road. As such, it can fail for a number of reasons including insufficient tyre tread, broken windscreen wipers, and faulty electronics. With regular servicing you can avoid most - if not all - issues that cause MOT failures.

When can you renew your MOT?

Your MOT can be renewed any time up to a month before its expiration. We at South West Nissan will provide you with a timely reminder should you have carried out an MOT with us previously.

What documents do I need for an MOT?

There are no specific documents required for you to carry out an MOT check on your vehicle.

When does my cambelt need changing?

The cambelt is one of the most important and hard-working components of your vehicle. As such, it is recommended by manufacturers that it is changed once every five years or 90,000 miles.

How do I know if my cambelt needs changing?

Certain warning signs will highlight when your vehicle requires its cambelt to be changed. These include unusual rev activity, engine oil leaks, difficulty starting the engine, and more. With cambelt servicing from South West Nissan, you can avoid a number of these issues before suffering any serious damage.

How often should you get a wheel alignment check?

Though not a legal requirement, it’s recommended that you check your wheel alignment every two or three years. Regularly going over kerbs and potholes can lead to alignment issues, so ensure you check with South West Nissan if you sense you have a problem.

Do I need an alignment after replacing my tyres?

To ensure that your tyres don’t wear at a different rate, it’s recommended that a wheel alignment is carried out when new tyres are fitted.
